What we're learning​ - Term 2 2015

This section of the site will give parents an insight into what currculum areas are being covered throughout the year.
 
                                                                           TERM THREE 2015
 
 
Mathematics:
Weeks 1 & 2: Conclusion of our unit on Measurement and Geometry including a review of all we have learned and a test to measure learning (this will be sent home for signing). We will be returning to Measuremeat later in the year when we review. 
 
Weeks 3 to 10: Statistics and Probability:
A unit covering all things to do with Statistics and Probability. There will be an assessment every two weeks and an end of unit test. 
 
We will also continue to work on our times tables and other mental strategies in class. 
 
 
 
English / Literacy:
 
Writing: Persuasive Writing and Procedures: Students will learn about writing persuasive texts and procedures and will have a homework assignment based on this that will be due in week 4. 
 
Reading: We will continue with our Literacy Pro (Lexile) readers for homework reading.
In class we will focus on higher order comprehension skills.
 
Spelling and Grammar: We will continue to have homework spelling words that the students all receive each week. Stuents will also work on their own grouped spelling words in class based on our spelling program "buidling spelling skills". 
 
Religious Education: 
Weeks 1 to 4: We will review and conclude our unit on Confirmation including an assessment as well as a report that the students will put together after the Sacrament.
Weeks 4 to 10: Unit on Prayer.
 
History:
We will be working on stories of groups of people who migrated to Australia (including from ONE Asian country) and the reasons they migrated, such as World War II and Australian migration programs since the war.
 
Geography: 
Differences in the economic, demographic and social characteristics between countries across the world. 
 
Extra's:
Lego Robotics:
We will continue with the Lego Robotics this term. Students are doing very well in this area. 
 
Students have at least 1 hour per week where they use their mathematical and ICT skills to program the robots they built themselves to do different things.
